July 18, 2016

Monday Morning.  What else can I say? Haha.  We started this morning with breakfast in the hotel and boarded the bus with Mr. H at 8:45 am.  We headed straight to our first destination, University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

We were greeted at the admissions office by Alicia, an Admissions Counselor, who presented the group with the university information session.

After the information session, the group was broken into two and were given a tour by tour guides Michelle and Gara.  Michelle has a BA in Psychology and is a graduate student at UMW earning her degree in Elementary Education.  Gara is a rising Senior with a double major and double minor, among all of her other positions at the school.

University of Mary Washington will be blogged by Zanira Musa and Kiana Ozbolt.

After we said our "Thank You's" and "Goodbyes" we loaded the bus headed for our next destination, University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  But, soon after we left UMW our bus AC began to glitch.  We got as far as Goochland Rest Area before we had to pull over because the bus was so hot!

It was 98 degrees out and the bus quickly got warmer than the outside.  We stopped at the rest area and Mr. H called for a replacement bus.  Luckily for us, the bathrooms at the rest stop were equip with AC.

After we cooled off a bit, we decided that we would wait for the replacement bus at Short Pump Town Center, just a few miles down the highway.  Because of our bus fiasco, we didn't make it to University of Virginia (thus, Kiana Ozbolt will be completing the blog about Univeristy of Mary Washington as well).  None the less, the students were able to enjoy the town center and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel, which was a 2 hour ride on the new AC bus.  The students were given time to work on a project and then it was lights-out.

All-in-All, today was a great day.  We had a great tour, with great tour guides, at the University of Mary Washington.  This school caught the eye of a lot of the students who are definitely considering this school for their future!  Not only is the campus very appealing, but the facilities, academic options, extra-curricular's, sports, and on- and off-campus life are amazing.  Even though we didn't get to see and tour the University of Virginia, the students learned an important life lesson, when things don't go as planned you need to make the best of what you have.  We, as a group made the best of the situation presented to us by enjoying the rest stop and shopping center while we waited for our replacement bus.  We didn't get caught-up in what was going wrong, we focused on the positive and had a great day.  We ended the day with a great meal and some quality group time. Yay!
