University of Maryland

The University of Maryland was an amazing campus with a lot of variety for students. It offered a wide array of majors, and leisure activities.
The school mascot is a turtle that stands proud, and according to the students, provides good luck to all that attend the University.
Pictured above is an example of an average room shared in the dorms. A clean and tidy living space is always expected for the best living conditions.
As stated in the beginning of the page, the University of Maryland offers a great diversity not only socially, but academicly as well. Pictured above is an enormous library, yes thats a library.

This giant turtle/tortoise, is a prized possession to the school, a bronze statue named Testudo. During stressful times such as finals week, students will rub the shiny gold nose of old Testudo for the best of luck. With that being said, ofcourse all of the students in this trip had to touch Testudos nose.

Having their own beautiful stadium for football and much more, the students are able to practice and play on a safe and private facility. Not only offering football or only outside sports, the University of Maryland has many sports to offer, from soccer, to swimming.
The swimming pool was a really clean and long pool. It offered a sanitary environment to ensure the best swimming capability and measures.

If you are a student who strives to branch out and discover new interests and horizons, the diversity given by the University of Maryland is perfect for you!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Today was a great day!  The students were allowed to sleep-in, and we saw everyone energized and ready to go at 10:30 am.  We loaded the bus and headed to Brunch at P.J. Skidoo's in Fairfax, Virginia.  It was an all you can eat Brunch (with a waffle station and an omelet station) and the students enjoyed themselves.  Today is also a special day because it is the 16th Birthday of one of the student's from another school.  The host's at P.J. Skidoo's were dolls and had balloons and a cupcake for the birthday guy!  We were able to sing "Happy Birthday" and he blew out his candle!

After breakfast we headed to Nationals Park in DC.  We were blessed enough to watch the Washington Nationals play the Pittsburgh Pirates from section 239.  For many of the student's this was their first major league event, in any sport!  The student's were also treated to snacks, drinks, and/or food at the stadium!  It was an awesome experience!  It was very hot, 95 degrees, and we were sitting in the sun, so we left the game to go shopping in the top of the 9th inning.
*We found out later this evening that the game went to 18 innings with the Pirates topping the Nationals 2-1.

After the game we were taken, by our bus driver, Mr. H, to Souvenir City on K Street in DC.  Mr. H has a business connection with the owners and the students and staff were treated to a 20% discount.  The students on this trip are amazing, shopping not only for themselves, but for their families also!

When the student's were done shopping, we were able to head down to the White House to take pictures (unfortunately, we are not able to get into the White House as planned :(, but we did get to see it and take pictures!)!  The students were amazed at all of the people, secret service and police, and performers out in front of the White House.

After the White House stop we headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up and have a pizza party.  The students enjoyed New York style pizza delivered from Flippin Pizza in Fairfax, Virginia.

The students were given time to work on a project and some of the staff went to a local store to get a ice cream cake to celebrate our student's 16th birthday!  We sang "Happy Birthday" one more time and then it was lights-out.

This trip just gets better and better!  The students are enjoying the college tours and the city life that would come with it!  They are getting the whole experience and are beyond grateful (and showing it constantly)!  The best part for the chaperones, besides spending this time with the students, is seeing the awe on their faces as we embark on each of our adventures!  The journey has been incredible!  3 more days, then we are headed back to Hawaii!!!  Yay!!!
